Een video-installatie van Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven voor Contour 2011 Mechelen tentoonstelling van 26 augustus tot 30 oktober 2011 De vijfde editie van Contour draagt de stempel van de Canadese curator Anthony Kiendl. Onder de titel ‘Sound and Vision: Beyond Reason’ legt de tentoonstelling verbanden tussen muziek, bewegend beeld en de maatschappij. Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven maakt een installatie voor de beklemmende kelderruimte van het Nekkerspoel station. Het was de bedoeling een spookgestalte van een performance te maken. Op 8 mei 2011 hebben we in de kelder van het Nekkerspoel station met Club Moral opgetreden voor een beperkt publiek. Van de verschillende nummers die we speelden bleek Bodies het enige dat echt aansloot bij de Genius Loci. Het nummer gaat over het onverzadigbare wat lichamen betreft. In WWII werd het station Nekkerspoel gebruikt om vanaf daar mensen naar concentratiekampen te voeren. De tegencultuur delft in wat graag verzwegen wordt, weggemoffeld. Het onreine, onrijpe, vettige, vieze en vlezige van wat er zoal aan gedachtengoed kan ontstaan als de lichamen de remmen vastzetten, die daarna dan volgens spontane, legale en andere strategieën loskomen. Zo'n installatie ter plekke maken is een confrontatie, ook lijfelijk getrek en geduw met de stoffelijke realiteit van de gekozen locatie maar ook met de Genius Loci. Met de verdraagzaamheid van de plek, maar ook met de verschillende oplossingen die in vorige generaties op de proppen kwamen, en stenen, ruimtelijke en dus ook inhoudelijk residu hebben achtergelaten. Ik heb de ruimte bewust opgezadeld met een nieuw gegeven, volgepropt met een set van kleine werkelijkheden: zoals een performende groep mensen van een bepaald pluimage. Een bijeenkomst van organisatoren, muzikanten, opnamecrew en genodigden. Een afspraak gemaakt op tijdstip en plaats, nummers op basis van inhoud en muzikale impact uitgekozen en ter plaatse uitgeprobeerd. Daarna de opgave van beeldkeuze en intense strijd van de montage met de weerloosheid van het materiaal maar ook dwingende valkuilen van beeldhistoriek, het verraderlijke aspect en arbitrariteit in beslissen en keuzes maken met aanverwanten zoals het déjà vu beeld, verveling en gratuite inspiratie. Dan het stadium van de installatie, nieuwe lichamen om mee te werken, maar ook natuurfenomenen, technische beperkingen, het hier en nu van het nieuwe en ter plaatse ontstane. Wat dan weer van heel diep in contact kwam met de veetransporten waarvoor de plek werd gebouwd, maar waar later mensen werden bijeengedreven om geneutraliseerd te worden als wezens. Alles gebeurt na elkaar en van elkaar weg maar ook altijd tegelijkertijd. Niets wat ooit gebeurd is verdwijnt, of het herhaalt zichzelf. AMVK 23.8.2011 Bekijk de videos van de installatie hier

A video-installation by Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven for Contour 2011 Mechelen opening exhibition op friday 26 august 2011 at 18.00hrs The fifth edition bears the mark of the Canadian curator Anthony Kiendl. Under the title ‘Sound and Vision: Beyond Reason’, the exhibition explores the intersections of music, contemporary film and video and post-conceptual art. Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven makes an installation for the beklemmende basement of the Nekkerspoel railway station. The idea was to make a phantom appearance of a performance. On 8 May 2011, Club Moral performed in the basement of the Nekkerspoel railway station before a limited audience. Of the various songs we played Bodies was the only thing that really joined the Genius Loci. The song is about the insatiable concerning bodies. In WWII the Nekkerspoel station was used to transport people from there to concentration camps. The counter-culture digs into what usually is silently hidden away. The unclean, immature, greasy, dirty and meaty of what can occur of ideology when bodies lock the brakes, which then in spontaneous, legal and other strategies come loose. Such an on-site installation is a confrontation, even physically pulling and pushing with the material reality of the chosen location, but also with the Genius Loci. The tolerance of the place, but also with the different solutions that previous generations came up with, and bricks, spacial and thus left behind content residue. I have left the space deliberately with a new factor, stuffed with a set of small realities: such as a performing group of people of a particular plumage. A meeting of organizers, musicians, recording crew and guests. An appointment on a particular time and place, songs based on musical content and impact, selected and tested on the spot. Then the task of choosing images and the intense struggle of editing with the helplessness of the material but also compelling pitfalls of image history, the treacherous aspect and arbitrariness of decisions and choices such as déjà vu image, boredom and gratuitous inspiration. The stage of installation, new bodies to work, but also natural phenomena, technical limitations, the here and now and the new constellation created. Which in turn comes into deep contact with the transport of animals for which the place was built, but where people were later rounded up to be neutralized as beings. Everything is done apart and away from each other but always at the same time. Nothing that ever happened will disappear, or it will repeat itself.
